New donor heart preservation and recovery strategies
Historically, static cold storage using the 3-bag method was the preferred method for storing donor hearts during transport. This organ preservation modality has several limitations, including the risk for cold-induced myocardia injury that may contribute to primary graft failure and poor transplantation outcomes. In recent years, novel organ preservation techniques have been introduced, including controlled hypothermic storage and ex vivo organ perfusion.
In this presentation, we will review current techniques for advanced organ preservation and report our initial experiences and results.
