Biography
Dr. Kern has been working at the University Clinic Golnik since 1995. He earned his
medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana in 1990. He
completed residency training in pathology in 1995. As a licensed pathologist (Medical
Chamber of Slovenia), he is heading the pathology laboratory. He did one-year postdoctoral
research focused on COPD at University of British Columbia, Canada. His main
interests in pulmonary pathology are interstitial lung diseases and lung cancer. He holds
the position of Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Health Care, Jesenice, and of Visiting
Expert at the Faculty of Medicine University of Maribor. Dr. Kern is ex-president of
the Slovenian Society of Pathology, active member of the Pulmonary Pathology Society and
the European Society of Pathology, where he served as chair of the Pulmonary Pathology Working
Group.
