PD Dr. Martin Weihrauch is a hemato-oncologist and one of the driving clinical minds behind practical digital workflows in pathology and diagnostic imaging. His perspective is shaped by years of clinical work at the University Hospital of Cologne and international research experience in tumor immunology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, USA.
His work in digital medicine is rooted in clinical practice. Throughout his medical career, Dr. Weihrauch repeatedly experienced how delayed or fragmented access to diagnostic material can affect tumor boards, treatment decisions, and patient care. Missing pathology slides, unavailable radiology images, time-consuming data imports, and disconnected data flows were not theoretical workflow issues to him, but everyday barriers to timely diagnosis and treatment.
This practical insight became the foundation for his mission: to develop digital solutions by physicians for physicians. As founder and Chief Medical Officer of Smart In Media AG, Dr. Weihrauch focuses on making digital pathology usable in real clinical and educational settings. With platforms such as PathoZoom and SmartZoom, he supports pathologists, clinicians, and educators in viewing, sharing, and discussing histological slides digitally — enabling faster access to cases, more efficient collaboration, remote consultation, teaching, and multidisciplinary exchange.
He is also the founder and Chief Medical Officer of EasyRadiology AG, a company dedicated to replacing outdated CD-based radiology image exchange with secure digital workflows.
Across both companies, Dr. Weihrauch’s work follows the same clinical logic: diagnostic information must move as fast as medical decision-making requires — enabling physicians to work faster, collaborate more efficiently, and make digital diagnostics clinically valuable and economically viable in everyday practice.
